Hi all,

I had surgery for an incarcerated femoral hernia right side on October 20th. It took me a very long time to heal. I finally started to feel better and thought wow this is what it feels like to not have than hernia any longer. Many of you know I had awful pain after bowel movements that lasted most of the day. I was in pain every day until my surgery. I was misdiagnosed prior to finding out a had an incarcerated hernia. Dr Towfigh might remember, my pelvic pain specialist was treating me for pelvic pain and interstitial cystitis. It was thought I had pelvic floor dysfunction and was given trigger point injections right into the area to break muscle spasms. Obviously, that did not work and physical therapy only made matters worse.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago I started to feel a dull ache in the same are. I had throbbing after a bowel movement again. I mentioned it to my pelvic pain doctor as I had an appointment with him that morning for a bladder instillation. He said that it might not be anything significant but if it didn't resolve in 2 weeks to discuss with him again and that I would probably have to go back to the surgeon for an exam.

It's been 2 weeks and today the pain kicked in worse than 2 weeks ago. It started right after a bowel movement and the deep ache and throbbing continued all day. As i sit here typing I still feel the pain. I also started to have the same sciatica pain today as before the surgery and some groin pain but more in the lower right quadrant of my pelvic area...same as before.

I had a mesh repair done and don't know what is going on. about 2 months ago I did notice that in that same area there was one spot that if i touched it lightly I would feel a sharp shooting pain. I think it's probably near the border of the mesh.

I don't know what to think anymore. I am praying it is an isolated incident but given the fact that something started about 2 weeks ago I don't know what to think. I have been using daily stool softeners and a squatty potty when having bowel movements so there is no stress or straining. My pelvic pain doctor is on vacation for a week and won't be back til Monday a week from today. I have an appointment with him that day for a bladder instillation but will probably just have an exam.

What can this be? The pain is real and all to familiar!
Mel
